John Currie has been playing bass for over forty years and is one of the most versatile and experienced freelance bassists on the London scene today. Both a seasoned studio and live musician, he has recorded for almost every major TV company in the UK, including many sessions for the BBC, and performed at concerts, festivals, and theatres around the world.
Since the 1980s John has played regularly in musical theatre in the West End, other London theatres and around the UK. He toured for eight years in the 1990s with American vocal quartet, The Drifters. Since the mid 1980s, he has been teaching bass guitar, being on the Basstech/TVU/ ICMP/UEL faculty since 2001. He also wrote for music publications for sixteen years from 1989 to 2004. In 2007, John was awarded the Degree of Master of Music (with Distinction) from Thames Valley University.
In recent years, John been a regular performer in the West End musical Mamma Mia, performed at a Paralympic Flame concert, played festival dates with Texan Country artist John Permenter, and is currently collaborating with author and TV & Radio personality Tony Hawks on a new album of original songs.
