ICMP has developed an international reputation and a network of global contacts during more than 30 years of developing and delivering cutting-edge courses to students of contemporary music. With around 40% of ICMP students being international, choosing a course of study here is truly an international experience.

Arguably the most internationally connected music school in the UK, ICMP partners with some of the finest music education providers in more than 16 countries. We work closely with a range of prestigious partner schools worldwide, including the Los Angeles College of Music (LACM) , ATLA in Paris, the Academy of Rock in Singapore, Vocal Art Studios in Melbourne, and the Vienna Music Institute (VMI).

Through this outward exposure, we help students build their global networking contacts and gain access to outside industry collaborations - for example, those in fashion, theatre, exhibitions, media and animation - and shine a light on some of the less conventional routes into music, such as composing for games, phones, television, film and the internet. It also provides ICMP graduates with opportunities for collaboration, further study and career progression internationally.

We also organise exciting field trips; past opportunities have included visits to Nashville, Tennessee – the world capital of songwriting - where students engaged in a busy schedule, attending lectures and seminars at Belmont University, and co-writing with Belmont students and professionals.

Our students attended a multitude of shows and writers’ rounds showcasing some of the world’s most successful songwriters, such as Matraca Berg, Brett James, and Kelsea Ballerini. The trips have led to students making key industry connections, and have contributed to significant international collaboration opportunities. Students also had the chance to play at legendary Nashville venues including The Bluebird Cafe, and visit the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) – a professional organisation of 720,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers.

Additionally, we regularly engage in knowledge sharing and competitions of all kinds - both in-person and online - with our partner schools. There is always something new and exciting on the international horizon for students to get involved in to enhance their education and careers!
