Julian Marshall | Songwriting Tutor | ICMP London

Julian Marshall is a songwriter, composer, teacher, lecturer, and musician with many years of experience, whether working with chart pop bands or classical ensembles.

Following education at Dartington High School and the Royal College of Music, Julian enjoyed a period of international chart stardom with the bands Marshall Hain, The Flying Lizards, and Eye to Eye. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Julian worked extensively as a songwriter, producer and session musician on both sides of the Atlantic. He worked in artist and repertoire for Boulevard Records of Los Angeles and became Senior A&R man for Polydor Records, UK. A new chapter as a mature composer of longer-form work began in 2009 and today composition takes a central position in his creative life. He is published by Novello.

Julian is currently a senior lecturer in Songwriting at ICMP London, where, in addition to lecturing and contributing to course creation and administration, he is involved in research into ‘community songwriting’, directing and overseeing special composing projects, contributing to the pastoral care team and managing he observation of teaching and learning for the Songwriting team.
