Barry has nearly forty years of experience
as a guitarist. He has worked inmusical
theatre productions, such as Evita,
Grease, Jacques Brel and Gospell, as
well as working with Jive Nation, Big
Chief and the Tito Lopez Combo with
whomhe has released a range of albums.
Barry specialises in teaching guitar
Jazz Improvisation, Sight Reading and
has created and developed the Harmony
andTheory and ChordMelody
curriculums at the Institute since
he joined the guitar faculty in 1989.

Bill is a pianist, keyboard player,
composer, producer and arranger.
He currently co-writes his own project
THE FIX; an electronic duo and is an
original member of Grammy Award
winners Snarky Puppy. Other artists
performed / worked with include,
Morcheeba, Musiq Soul Child, Chris
Potter, Lionel Loueke, The New
Mastersounds, Miss Dynamite and
Keith Allen. Bill currently runs his own
music production company Twenty
Thousand specialising inmusic for film,
TV and commercials. Recent clients
include Apple Mac, Sky Broadband,
Nokia, De Beers, Hewlett Packard and
Rigby & Peller. Bill also works extensively
in the dance world with companies
including Alvin Ailey, Ballet Rambert,
Matthew Bourne, Phoenix dance,
Northern Ballet Theatre and English
National ballet.

Nigel Lipton

Nigel Lipton is a solicitor, law lecturer,
writer and occasional radio broadcaster.
He has an unhealthy passion for all types
of music (musically it is easier to list what
he does not like than what he likes) and
having reluctantly accepted at a very early
age that he was not a great musician and
would never see himself at the top of
The Billboard Hot 100 singles chart used
his love of music with his love of the law
to turn himself into a music lawyer. He is
the author of the law book Music: The Law
andMusic Contracts (originally published
by CLT Professional Publishing) and has
lectured inmedia, entertainment and
intellectual property law at various
institutions including Regents' College
in London (now Regents' University) and
The College of Law in London (nowThe
University of Law) where he was a senior
lecturer and branch head of the media,
entertainment and intellectual property
law option onThe Legal Practice Course.
MaurizioMalagnini

Maurizio is a composer for television
and cinema. He is currently composing
the music for an animation series to
be broadcast on Italian national TV
directed by the Oscar nominated
and Gold Bear winner Bruno Bozzetto.
He also collaborates with MTV and his
compositions have been synchronised
into adverts such as Miller, X-box 360,
Fiat and Samsung. Maurizio has produced
soundtracks for over 10 short movies.
In 2005 he studied at Accademia Chigiana
where he was awarded the Emma
Contestabile Award. He graduated with
distinction from a Masters in Composition
for Screen Programming at the Royal
College of Music where he was a recipient
of an Arts and Humanities Research
Council award.

Philip is a graduate of Jeff Berlin’s ‘Players
School of Music’ in Florida. Endorsed by
Overwater Bass Guitars, he has appeared
in Dancing In the Street, Jesus Christ
Super Star, Little Shop Of Horrors,
Anything Goes, Fame, Bugsy Malone,
Grease, Hairspray and One Night InVegas.
Phil has been privileged to open for
Marcus Miller (Bassday 2011), perform at
the London Bass Guitar Show (2012, '13),
and also work with legendary bassist TM
Stevens. Currently, he is composing
his first bass publication‘ChordTone
Concepts’. Phil is also a writer for Bass
Guitar Magazine, running the monthly
Advance Techniques Column.

From 70s pop stardom (Marshall Hain,
The Flying Lizards, Eye to Eye) tomature
composer (Out of the Darkness, The Angel
in the Forest) Julian has a wealth of
experience as a songwriter, composer,
teacher, lecturer andmusician. He is
creative director of London Song
Company and lecturer in songwriting
and performance at the Institute.
Today, composition takes a center-stage
role in Julian’s creative life.

Higher Diploma
Michael is a graduate of the Guildhall
School of Music and Drama and has
been working in the music industry for
over 25 years. He is a versatile keyboard
player, and has worked with some of the
biggest bands in the world including
The Spice Girls, Gary Barlow, Coolio,
East 17, S Club 7, Eternal, Will Young and
Ziggy Marley. Michael has also worked
as musical director and arranger for
Jamelia, Vanessa Mae, Bond, Aswad
and Blazing Squad. Recently, Michael
has been collaborating with the next
generation of youngmusicians whilst
still actively touring himself, with groups
such as Aswad and Ali Campbell's UB40.
Neil Martin

Neil is a professional drummer and
educator with over 30 years’experience.
Throughout his career Neil has toured and
recorded withmany artists and has been
a sessionmusician onmany television
and radio broadcasts. Neil was a member
of the Jimmy Barnes band and can be
heard on the albums ‘Psyclone’and
‘The Best of Jimmy Barnes’. He toured
all over the world and performed to
audiences of up to 110,000 people and
supported bands including Bon Jovi
andThe Rolling Stones. Neil has lectured
and performed drum clinics around the
UK. Neil is regarded as one of the top
drum teachers in the UK and enjoys
teaching students at all levels at his
studio and within schools.

EWollenberg bursary recipient Heather
McQuillan Parker studied at the New
England Conservatory in Boston, USA
where she received a Bachelor degree
inVocal Performance. She completed the
Knack Performing Arts Course through
the ENO Baylis program in 1999. She has
been a soloist with Opera Integra, Abbey
Opera, Opera East, Opera Now and the
ENO Baylis Programperforming in the
Bloomsbury Theatre, Hackney Empire,
Battersea Arts Centre and the Harrow
Theatre amongst others. She is a featured
soloist on the soundtrack of the Universal
Pictures film "The Life of David Gale",
recording atWhitfield Street and
Abbey Road Studios.

Alan is a busy and in demand bassist on
the international music scene. Best known
for his work in the Jazz, Fusion, Funk, Soul
and R&B genres, he has played bass with
many major names including legendary
Soul acts, Jocelyn Brown, Alexander
O’Neal,The Drifters andThe Blues Brothers
(for whomhe is currently the musical
director) as well as legendary Jazz
heavyweights, Wynton Marsalis, Barry
Harris, Ian Carr, JimMullen and John
Surman. He has also worked inmusical
theatre playing in Soul Train, 125th Street
andThe Counterfeit Stones. Alan is
currently playing with former Joe Zawinul
guitarist Amit Chatterjee inThe Amit
Chatterjee Alliance. He also runs his own
“high end” function band called“The Soul
Coalition”which features a collective of
the UK's finest sessionmusicians.
Alan is also bassist/MD for singer/
songwriter Me'sha Bryan whose album
“Maybe Today”he produced. Alan has
written columns for Total Guitar and
MakingMusic magazines and is
a Markbass endorsee.

Max Milligan LLCM(TD) has been an
active live/studiomusician, composer
and songwriter since 1973. He has taught
at the Institute since 1991. He has written
countless pieces of library music for T.V.
and films. He is currently touring with
the Country/Blues singer Cherry Lee
Mewis. He is the featured guitarist and
producer on her four albums, the latest
being“Catch My Drift”2014. His solo
acoustic songs and instrumentals
album is called“Homage”.

Howard runs The Local, presenting
international acts at shows, festivals and
touring worldwide. The Local Booking is
a member of the Agents Association and
represents emerging and established
talent. Occasional radio show host, event
compere and host//creator of Folk Idol,
Howard shares his often strong opinions
on his blog and at conference panels.
The Local promotes The Endmini
festival and the movable feast that

Jonathan has been teaching for over 20
years both privately and within colleges.
With his experience in contemporary,
opera and classical music he has worked
as a vocal coach with a variety of artists.
He has been a musical director for choirs,
orchestras and bands and has arranged
albums, specialising in both the voice
and saxophone. Jonathan is also a yoga
practitioner and has taught for Nike,
headlined‘YogaGames’and been lead
speaker at BWY congress’. His love for
both yoga andmusic comes together,
enabling him to offer his students a
unique approach towards optimum
vocal performance health.
