Singer and pianist Matt Maltese studied on our BA Creative Musicianship degree course and his career continues to go from strength to strength. Having signed a deal with Atlantic Records and with plans to support Hamilton Leithauser throughout March 2017 on his UK and Europe tour (as well as a handful of festival performances and supporting the Maccabees on their farewell tour in 2017), Matt has released the video for his latest track ‘As The World Caves In’, which culture magazine The Fader praises as a ‘moving’ musical commentary on current global events.
His song ‘Even If It’s A Lie’ received support from Burberry, Radio X and Apple Music and is now performing all over the UK in support of his debut EP, 'In a New Bed', including tracks produced by Hugo White (The Macabees). He has previously performed at Green Man Festival and at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton on May 2017, being described by NME as “the UK’s answer to Father John Misty”. He played alongside acts including Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and Wild Beasts at the Live at Leeds Festival.
Matt met Pete Simmons from Universal Publishing at one of the career days during an A&R one-to-one session organised by ICMP’s music industry advisory and careers service, The Hub. The Hub team continued to help and advise Matt through a variety of early career choices, and remain engaged in providing a sounding board for his music. He played one of ICMP’s Songwriters Circles along with Natasha North and as a result was asked to support her on the London dates for her tour.
